Seasonal Wedding Tips
Congratulations! You’ve decided to put a ring on it and tie the knot!
Planning to have a wedding in a specific season? Don’t let the weather rain on your parade, but make use of the weather that you’ve chosen for your wedding to maximise your wedding dreams.
For each season, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to plan your wedding. You will need time to book your favourite wedding photography and videography , other vendors and to prepare all the elements of your wedding.
Each season is unique in its own way. No matter when in the year you decide to host your special day, there are special tips ready for you.
Spring
Spring is the most popular season in Australia to have a wedding. And no wonder. As the season of new life and new beginnings, it’s the perfect time to embark on a new journey with your significant other!
Spring has unpredictable weather charts. With rainy storm clouds one second and bright summer sunshine the next, Spring often hosts all four seasons in one day. So be flexible and prepared to have alternatives.
Even if you do not have an indoor alternative, make sure to bring an umbrella if there’s a forecast of rain. Most wedding photographer and videographer recommend their couple to have the transparent umbrella. There’s nothing worse than spending all those hours getting ready, only to have your wedding clothes ruined in a matter of seconds.
Consider having a floral themed wedding using seasonal flowers in this special season. With new life blooming all around you, it’s only natural to take advantage of it, especially good for the wedding photography and videography
Have a bouquet and an arbour filled with seasonal flowers. Arrange flowers in the décor, and in your hair if you’re the bride or in your side pocket, if you’re the groom. Have your family and friends throw petals rather than confetti.
A new season of your life is beginning!
Summer
Being the warmest season of the year, summer allows you to be more laid back and casual. It’s also the best time to have an outdoor wedding, to make the most of the longer days and warmer nights.
With Summer, the lighting is super important. During summer, the lighting is too harsh. Having a wedding ceremony too early means that the sunlight is too harsh for your wedding photographer and videographer to take location photos.
The golden time for taking wedding photos is about an hour before sunset. For summer, this means at about 8:30 pm. Wedding photography and videography Location shoots are often taken directly after the ceremony, so consider having your ceremony later in the day.
If not, check with your wedding photographer and videographer , you can always make time to sneak away during your evening reception in order to take those gorgeous location photos.
Be mindful of the heat and your guests. Make sure there’s plenty of cool drinks and ice to cool your guests down. The last thing you want is for your guest to start fainting from heatstroke!
If it suits your theme, consider having an ice cream van or truck as one of your vendors. This is especially good if you have children at your wedding, but it’s also a great way to eat something delicious and cool on such a warm day.
Autumn
Although Autumn is a month where the weather begins to cool down, that doesn’t mean your themeshave to. Stay bright with warm colours, such as: red, gold and bronze, along with some earthy tones.
If you thought Spring was a colourful month, Autumn is even more so. Walk down a colourful aisle of red, orange and gold leaves, a sign of the change of season. A change of your own season.
Keep in mind that this is the season where the weather begins to cool down. If you’re having it closer to the beginning of Autumn, the weather will still be warm, but keep some wet weather alternatives once the weather begins to turn a little frosty.
Autumn is the perfect month for a rustic vibe, and having your wedding at a farmhouse or a winery will give it this effect! Consider having rustic décor, especially in wood, incorporating natural elements, to build the atmosphere for wedding photo and videos
Also, using seasonal fruit, such as apples and oranges, as well as seasonal florals in your décor will stand out, highlighting the colour of the season!
Winter
The cold weather can allow for you to have a really cosy wedding. It also means that you can have rich desserts and warm drinks that resemble a cosy night by the fire.
Winter is the perfect time to set the atmosphere. With its cold weather, having your ceremony and reception in a place that resembles a wooden cabin can be a great way of creating ambience. Especially with a warm wood fire to warm up even the coldest guest.
Don’t forget to rug up during winter. The last thing you’d want to catch on your special day is a cold. For brides, it’s a good idea to wear a nice warm shawl, or a long- sleeved dress. Make sure that your bridesmaids also have something fashionably warm to wrap themselves up in, so that everyone stays warm!
It’s also a really good excuse to reduce the number of people on your wedding guest list and have a cosier, more intimate wedding reception. With your nearest and dearest around you, the feelings will become ever so much warmer.
As mentioned back in Summer, it’s important to remember the lighting for your location photos. The prime time for taking location photos is an hour before sunset.
Often, the location photos will be taken following your ceremony, and as the sun sets earlier this season, at around 5:30pm, our advice is to have your ceremony a little bit earlier. This will reduce stress and allow you to take all the location photos at your leisure with the perfect lighting.
Nowadays , the idea of first look before the late ceremony can be a nice way to get the beautiful lighting and save a nerve bride and groom. If you do considering first look make sure asking your wedding photographer and videographer about it.
As with all weddings, a seasonal colour palette, and paying attention to seasonal florals will look stunning at your wedding. Consider having a seasonal menu, as well, as everything you indulge in tastes fresher when it’s in season!
Know that no matter the time of year you choose to celebrate your special day, ‘tis the season, my friends. With all these seasonal wedding ideas at your fingertips, your wedding will be the season to celebrate!
